What’s in a Name?

“There is power in the name of Jesus… there is power in the names of God…

The names of God hold the key to understanding who He is… and His name is known only because He chooses to make it known…. the names of God express His character, nature, will or authority…

We are to use His name when talking to and about Him, and no other time than that…

EL – “The Strong One”

There are a lot of pretenders, but there is only one “Strong One..” He is more powerful than any false god… God will overcome all obstacles… We can depend on God…

YHWH (Jehovah) – “I AM” The One Who Is, The Self-Existent One

He is the living God in contrast to the lifeless (dead) false gods… He is the Self-existent one who causes all things to exist and is present with His chosen people…

God basically says, Moses tell them, “I want to be known as the God who is present and active and alive… I’m faithful and loving… and will last forever…”

God is not abstract, unknowable, just some nameless energy and force… He is the LIVING God!

When we reject His patient love towards us, and if we die outside of a saving relationship with Him, instead of Jesus bearing our sins, we bear them alone, and are bound to an eternity of Hell…

The Living God is calling us to live for Him while we still have breath in our lungs…

ADONAI – The Lord, My Great Lord, or Master or Owner

The idea is God as our master, our authority, and our provider…

God is not some cruel southern plantation owner…

God is the Strong One, our Creator, our Living God… and He wants the best for us… But He has to be the one who directs us, leads us, has authority over us… He has to be our Lord, our Master…

It’s not ego tripping, it’s knowing what’s best and wanting to lovingly direct our lives so we can live in honorable ways and join Him in Heaven…

God is the Strong One, the Great I AM, and our Great Lord!
• Let us replace our weak gods for the Strong One…
• And let us depend upon His strength in all of life’s obstacles…
• For He is the Living God…
• Let Him not only be Savior of your life, but Lord…”
