The Test of Dependence

“Let us start inviting God into the decision making processes of our lives…

Planning for great wealth outside the blessing of God is risky business…

When we form plans without the slightest recognition in word or thought to the One who’s overall will it all depends on, it’s not wise…

“Man proposes, God disposes”

Let us be humble in our plans, not that we shouldn’t dream big, or have faith for great things, but live with and acknowledge that God’s divine will has a role in our lives and plans… and seek Him in all our endeavors…

God is not saying we shouldn’t plan… only that they are submissive to the direction and will of God…

He rebukes practical atheism which would shut out God from any avenue of life, including business… He’s to be Lord of our whole lives…

Humanity has been gifted with reason and logic, yet we act so often without reason or logic…

If we’re in Christ this supreme God is for us, not against us… so we can plan in confidence…

So let us not act on our own and ask God to bless it later… let the plans of God be our plans, let us not somehow try to make our plans become God’s plans…

So how do we find God’s will: It never contradicts scripture… the Holy Spirit speaks through our conscience… take a listening stance with God… don’t allow yourself to be paralyzed by analysis, if He’s transforming your desires, and they check out, you can have confidence in them…

Success in the eyes of the world doesn’t have to puff us up… If God is our source for all things and provision then our “success” becomes His glory and not our excuse for pride…

This is not about saying the right things to impress people, but the condition of the heart…

We can get so ahead of ourselves within our plans, that we omit the great plans and desires of God that are right in front of us…

This is the definition and heart of this sin… not simply doing a bad thing but not doing the right thing… earning a living, making a profit, providing for those around us isn’t bad…

Sins of omission (to know the right thing and leave it undone) and sins of commission (to know that it’s the wrong thing to do and still do it)…

It is not only sinful to do wrong, it is also sinful to lose an opportunity of doing good…

“God claims from all of us, not merely that we should “cease to do evil,” but also that we should “learn to do well.””
