Hard Choices

“In the course of Moses leadership, he received both good and bad counsel from people that love God…

Moses didn’t allow pride to keep him from hearing wisdom…

So as we face hard choices, having the humility to listen to the wise men and women within our lives is invaluable…

Moses listening to his father-in-law saved him a nervous breakdown… Made him a better lead… showed him how to empower and teach others to lead… and allowed him to focus on the greater task of leading God’s people to the promise land…

But there is another side to this coin… “We must beware both of the ungodly council of the wicked and the ungodly council of the righteous…”

Joshua, from a good place, a place of loyalty and love, was missing it… He was a righteous man giving bad advice…

Even Paul missed it… Paul is being “deserted” by others… Calls for Mark who had deserted him in the past… Mark was restored, and could minister to and with him in this time of loss…

Barnabas was right in restoring Mark, getting him back on the horse of ministry again… and Paul missed it… but Paul would came full circle and asked for him… Paul was a righteous man, but he missed it with Mark in Acts 15…

How did Moses make all these hard choices with so many conflicting pieces of advice… Moses discerned because he knew the voice and presence of God…

There is a place by God, and with God, that is still deeper than where we are at…

If we want to hear and see better we need more communion with God…

We cannot let our only communion with God be during our “in case of emergency break glass” moments…

We are all ultimately responsible for the decisions we make in life, yes, the council we get matters… but we cannot absolve ourselves of poor decision making because of the advice of others… we can go to Jesus ourselves for wisdom…

We should not be paralyzed with fear at every decision in life… But we need to be commonly found in the presence of God…

The big point: As we make His presence regular within our lives… when the big life altering dilemmas in life arise we are not just discovering how to find the presence of God… that His presence is so regular within our life we are familiar with the voice of The Shepherd…

We as men, we as people must be avid pursuers of God and His presence… only in His presence can we truly see and hear…

Moses led well, and made hard choices well, because He knew the voice, the glory and the presence of His God…”
