Faithful in the Waiting

“Waiting can be tough… our society doesn’t encourage waiting…

Saul wasn’t a bad king because he was worse than the kings of the surrounding nations, by comparison he may have been far better… Our standard has never been our neighbor, God is our standard and His purpose… Israel was called to a higher purpose than any other nation on earth… Saul’s leadership was not going to take them to that purpose…

Before Saul ever failed, God was raising up David… tragedy doesn’t surprise God, He’s made grace enough for it… this tragedy for Israel was covered by the soon coming king…

The idea is that we move step by step with God… as we’re obedient in each step He will give us more light…

This was the mistake the nation had made with Saul… He looked like a king, and they wanted a king “like” all the other nations had…

The outward appearance of a man is not always an accurate judge of the inward man… for there is a limit to what we can know from the outside of a man…

God judges us perfectly… He reads us entirely. His understanding of us moves past any self-deception or deception we may have…

They first king was initiated by man, this second king was initiated by God…

Whatever lies in our future, right heartedness is the first conditions of receiving it… our prayers must be, “God search my heart”…

And it’s interesting, the first time we see Saul he’d lost his donkey, and was at the end of his rope… the first time we see David he’s humbly and faithfully (at a young age) shepherding his flock… this pattern would continue…

David after his anointing went back to tend sheep, run food, playing his harp, living as an outlaw… then he realized his kingship…

One small point here, our life experiences are preparing us for an amazing future…

Yet still why do we have to wait? We must be “active waiters…”

The removal of obstacles (Saul was still king)… David needed time to mature, to receive foundational instruction, discipline, and preparation…

David’s mom was referred to as the “Maidservant” of the Lord (Ps 86:16; 116:16)… we may need some older saints speaking into our lives…

David needed to spend some time with the sheep… Shepherding – built physical strength, endurance, agility, courage (beasts and robbers), as well it gave him downtime (meditated on God, music)

David was trained by Samuel… we need spiritual leaders to speak into our lives…

If God has anointed you for some “greater” thing be faithful in the humble things and the “greater” things will come in God’s providence…

We must learn to be faithful in the waiting…”
