“We would (seemingly) be more respected by the world and the broader Christian community if we could just abandon tongues…

“the fear of man is a snare” … our first concern must be Christ and truth…

Humanity has made tongues and interpretation odd, strange, chaotic, controversial and divisive… this was not Gods intention in giving us this gift… abuse has breed fear, and this fear and abuse has lead to disuse…

Paul says this is a profitable aspect of services… God wants to communicate through us in creative ways… Paul dedicated a whole chapter to tongues…

If you are not baptized in the Spirit with Speaking in tongues, it’s Gods desire that you would be…

Tongues given loudly in a public service without interpretation builds up ourselves, but does little for others…

Tongues in a public service are given to arrest the attention of the unbeliever… The believer should already believe that God speaks…

When you give a public tongue wait a beat to see if someone else would have the interpretation…
• “someone” this goes for all believers…
• not a literal translation…
• Use common language…
• Only 2 or 3 a service…

We are to “weigh what is said…”
• Edification and scriptural truth are the founding principles in determining if it is from God or not…
• Judge what is spoken by the word of God…

What if we (with well-intentioned hearts) miss it? Correction doesn’t mean that leadership is upset with the individual… the very book of 1 Corinthians was a book of correction by Paul through the Spirit to lovingly correct…

This prophecy and interpretation doesn’t hold the same infallibility as scripture… that’s why it’s to be judged by scripture…

God’s great desire in our services is that we would commune with Him…
• that they would be balanced, engaging both the mind and the spirit…
• and that He above all would receive glory…
• and He receives honor when things are done decently and in order…”
