Prayer and Fasting

“Prayer and Fasting can change the course of history…

Fasting must forever center on God… It must be God-initiated and God-ordained… It must be more than just challenging ourselves not to eat…

If our fasting is not unto God, we have failed… Physical benefits, success in prayer, the power of God, spiritual insights—these must never replace God as the center of our fasting. That is the only way we will be saved from loving the blessing more than the Blesser.

Throughout Scripture fasting refers to abstaining from food for spiritual purposed…

“A popular belief that it is a positive virtue to satisfy every human appetite has made fasting seem obsolete… While the human body can survive only a short time without air or water, it can go for many days – usually about forty – before starvation begins… when done correctly, fasting can have beneficial physical effects.”

Our bodies are better equipped to deal with less food than too much food…

What should we do during our fast…
• Journal during your fast…
• The focus of prayer and fasting is to be more about changing us than changing our situation…
• Filling the time we would spend eating with prayer instead…”
