David’s Secret

“One of the great proofs of the bible is that they never whitewash their hero’s…

The question is how can a murderer and an adulterer have a heart after God?

In Psalm 51 notice he did nothing to defend his actions… notice he did not tout all the good he had done for God… David threw himself on the mercy and the character of God’s loving kindness…

David’s secret to having a heart after God… is that he didn’t trust in himself, but he trusted in God’s loving kindness / steadfast love… David’s Secret was dependence…

I believe dependence was one of the things David learned while watching sheep in the wilderness…

Dependents drove his hunger and searching… We can be too trusting of ourselves, and too distrusting of our Omni-present, Omni-potent, Omni-knowing God…

“Self-sufficiency of the spirit is sin because it is rebellion against the truth that people need God…”

Temptation doesn’t equal falling… You cannot stop a Bird from flying over your head… but we can keep it from making a nest in our hair…

The fruit of dependence is discipline and self-control…

The source of Paul’s power in Christ was his dependence: “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.”
The source of David’s heart after God was his dependence: “My soul clings to You;
Your right hand takes hold of me.”

Will you allow your weakness to be your strength? To drive you to dependence…
Will your strength be your dependence on God, and not your self-sufficiency?

Allow your weakness to drive you to dependency”
